We were literally going back to the drawing board looking for some depth, heart and soul with which to complete our album. Curt came up with this simple folk\/country riff, a little bit Dylan, a little bit Johnny Cash, and then we were off. It was the complete opposite of what we had been trying to do for many years \u2013 searching for the elusive, modern hit single. We felt suddenly unencumbered, free if you like, no longer worrying about the market, about success, but drawing on influences from our childhoods. It was at this point that the whole album started opening up. \u2018No Small Thing\u2019 was the key, the thing that turned a red light green,\u201d - Roland Orzabal\n \n\"No Small Thing\" feels like it could have been a song from a seventies or sixties acoustic folk album with how the track starts. Avevamo bisogno di confrontarci, di unire le nostre menti. Di metterci alla lavagna in cerca di spessore, di cuore e anima con cui portare a termine il nuovo album. Curt ha abbozzato questo semplice riff di chitarra, un po\u2019 alla Bob Dylan, o Johnny Cash, e siamo partiti. Il risultato era esattamente l\u2019opposto di quanto ci eravamo prefissi per anni, in cerca di un singolo nuovo, inedito, sfuggente. Ci siamo improvvisamente sentiti \u2013 come dire \u2013 pi\u00f9 leggeri, liberi, non pi\u00f9 soggetti alle pressioni del mercato, del successo\u2026 stavamo tratteggiando qualcosa che ci riportava alla nostra infanzia. Ed \u00e8 stato proprio in quel momento che l\u2019album a cominciato a schiudersi. \u2018No Small Thing\u2019 \u00e8 stato il punto di svolta, la chiave, il semaforo che finalmente diventa verde\u201d dice Roland. \u201c\u2018No Small Thing\u2019 inizia in un modo che pu\u00f2 far pensare ad un disco folk degli anni \u201960 o \u201970. Il fatto che fossimo tanto sicuri da partire in quel modo per arrivare al finale della canzone, dove tutto degenera nel caos, la dice lunga su quel senso di libert\u00e0, e da un punto di vista musicale questa \u00e8 la nostra comfort zone\u201d, aggiunge Curt. Ispirato da Koyaanisqatsi, il video di \u201cNo Small Thing\u201d \u00e8 stato realizzato esclusivamente con filmati di repertorio, in modo da mettere in mostra il contrasto tra libert\u00e0 individuale e responsabilit\u00e0 collettiva.
